Breaking News! ABC News is taping at PortraitBug

Santa Claus is coming and so is ABC News. ABC will be taping Saturday morning at PortraitBug as Santa gets his photo taken. What does this mean?

1. Yes, PortraitBug is open!!! Our doors have finally opened and we welcome you to come visit.

2. Our portrait studio is up and running. Bring your family, kids, pets to get their photo taken.

3. Santa Claus is visiting the store starting Friday. Be prepared to tell Santa what you want for Christmas. From Black Friday until Sunday we will be taking photos.

4. Our class schedule will be posted soon. Check out our online calendar for the recent additions. First up, Julie Fei-Fan Balzer teaching you to make a “week in the life” book. You can book your spot here.

5. Join us for a free event… Ladies Night Out on December 11th. We will teach you to make simple, clean photo gifts for friends and family. Paper Marbling With Chalk

One of the first things that I bought when I started scrapbooking was a set of chalk.  Inexpensive and easy to use, chalk is a great tool for coloring almost anything.  Plus, unlike ink, you can erase it with a white eraser!  So, no mistakes!  Gotta’ love that.  But, if you’re ready to take that chalk to the next level, watch the tutorial below on how to use chalk to create marbled paper…

Don’t wait in line for hours, click here to book your appointment in advance. We understand that waiting is never fun. We will be taking select appointments so you can go straight to the head of the line. Walk-ins are also welcome but we recommend reserving a time in advance. Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time.

Portrait Packages will start at $49.95. Holiday cards and framed photos will also be available. You will leave from your appointment with your photos and cards.

PortraitBug is hiring for part-time sales positions

New store on the upper west side seeking a part-time experienced scrapbooker for retail sales position. 

REQUIREMENTS: 
* Have a scrapbook to show you work at the interview. 
* Ability to create scrapbook kits and sample pages 
* Good organizational skills 
* Good attention to detail 
* Strong customer service and communication skills 
* Be VERY VERY VERY responsible 

The Scrapbook Specialist is responsible for performing efficient, accurate and friendly customer transactions, including operating the cash register and processing customer purchases. Applicants must demonstrate good listening skills with regards to customer requests about product locations and store programs and services, and knowledge of the scrapbooking industry with a willingness to learn about the craft industry. 

Scrapbook Specialist candidates must have good organizational skills, good attention to detail and strong customer service and communication skills. High school diploma is required; some previous retail experience or restaurant is recommended. 

Basic computer skills are required. Hours of work vary and you will be required to work some evenings and weekends. 

To be considered for this exciting opportunities please send a letter highlighting which position interests you, why you are interested and what skills you feel you bring to the position. 

You will be helping with creating scrapbook kits and sample pages. 

You will be on the floor most of your shifts helping customers with the craft needs, showing them on to use tools, giving them ideas on making cards and scrapbook layouts. This is fast paced high energy level job. 

You will also be responsible for keeping track of special orders – calling customers when they arrive – maintaining our class attendance list and creating and update what is needed in terms of stock items. Replenish the displays, cleaning the crop studio, replenish the cash area with bags, newsletter, paper fro the register, price items, do signage, cleaning the store – floors, dusting, washrooms. Approach the customer and determine what they are looking for, demonstrate how to use products, highlight new ones, or ones that would make there tasks easier. 

Candidates being considered will be contacted for an interview. You will be asked to bring samples of your scrapbook pages to present at the interview. These samples should exhibit your knowledge and use of several scrapbooking techniques and tools. We have monthly staff meetings or staff events , daily and monthly sales goals as a team to meet. 
Salary starts at $10/hr. with performance bonuses for TEAM performance.

Julie’s ribbon bead frame – learn to do it with video

About a month ago, Julie Balzer posted on her blog ’7 days of PortraitBug’. These posts included examples of her design team layouts and videos showing techniques she used.

We will show you how to accomplish many of the techniques from the design team, give highlights on classes we will teach in the store, and just show off some fun stuff as we go along.

Another store update….. floors

Progress! Our fun puzzle floor is going down today. Yes, today. Last week the floor was leveled and given proper drying time. Once the floor is in, the lighting goes up, and some skim coat and paint we will be ready to fill the store with product. In addition to what is available online, there will be lots of new and interesting items.
